A traditional, charming hotel offering old school hospitality

The staff was friendly and always willing to help. Overall, the hotel has a charming, traditional feel that reflects the classic values of hospitality. However, it seems better suited for older couples and appears to cater primarily to senior Japanese tourists. The hotel is conveniently located near the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, the river, and several Buddhist temples nestled within the forest. The area felt more residential but offered an authentic and tranquil side of Kyoto, which we appreciated. It also features a bike-sharing station where you can rent bikes, and there is a Family Mart and other shops approximately 200 meters away. The breakfast was good, featuring authentic Japanese dishes. However, if you're not accustomed to eating pickles, fish, and hotpot in the morning, it might not be for you.

We visited in November when it was still quite warm outside. Unfortunately, the hotel's central AC system was not operational, leaving our room uncomfortably hot and requiring us to open the window, which let in some noise. Fortunately, the weather cooled down in the following days, making the situation more comfortable. Staff speaks limited english, yet they are always willing to help. The hotel is far from most of main attractions in Kyoto, yet well connected by bus or bike, but factor it in your planning.

Decent value and close to main attractions.

Location was great

Checkin process is slow, not being able to keep the key to our room when we went out, no choice over the breakfast menu, and rigid time to have breakfast.

Great room and space, extras not included in price

Excellent room with a living space, and clean.

We booked this hotel because it came up as having breakfast included and free parking. It was disappointing to find out neither were included. We were charged with a 4800 yen parking fee (for three nights) on the way out. I’m not sure if that’s a booking.com issue or not, in terms of information available up front. The motel book also says there’s a laundry service but when we tried to use this there was a lot of confusion so we gave up and found a coin laundry instead. We’re still glad we stayed there as everything else was great and the staff were polite - just things to be aware of if you choose to use this motel.

It's a nice place to stay if you like a quiet area that is near one of the tourist attractions

Staff: very professional, friendly, hospitable Location: accessible by public transport; quiet area Room: clean and spacious Hallway: wide and bright

Room: only got 1 key and no spare. Too hot and uncomfortable even if we turned off the AC/heater. Spent 3 nights and even if we have individual beds it is strange that we always wake up early morning because it's too hot and uncomfortable even if outside temperature is very cold and freezing. AC/heater is centralized. Windows are locked so we don't have option of getting fresh air.

Nice hotel in Kyoto

What a comfy stay! They have additional parking spot nearby the hotel. So, if you arrive and there's no parking space right at the hotel, you can still park at their designated parking lot. The hotel is modest. Super clean and comfortable. For the room we chose, they have a Japanese style bathroom (the bathing section, the toilet part is still western, so don't worry) which is interesting, and I think it adds a unique charm to the place. The Breakfast is a set and require booking time. We are happy to choose this hotel for our visit to Kyoto!

„Klassisches Hotel mit freundlichen Personal und gutem Service.

Sehr nettes und zuvorkommendes Personal, was auch auf individuelle Wünsche eingeht. Die Zimmer waren sauber und gut ausgestattet, wenn auch etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Das Frühstück war klassisch Japanisch - wenn man es mag sehr gut. Es gibt schöne Aktivitäten in der Nähe die auch fußläufig erreichbar sind, genauso wie Supermarkt und Wäscherei. Die Busse hier können jedoch leider auch mal etwas überfüllt sein.. Man sollte ggf den Shuttle service oder Taxi in Anspruch nehmen wenn man viel Gepäck hat.

« Hôtel parfait pour y passer une nuit et vivre une atmosphère différente de la partie ultra touristique de Kyoto. »

L’hôtel est un peu vieillot mais c’est aussi justement ce qui fait son charme. Le personnel est vraiment exceptionnel et pour bien communiquer avec eux il faut idéalement utiliser le traducteur vocal d’un téléphone intelligent. Il faut profiter de la proximité de la “Forêt des kimonos” pour aller l’admirer illuminée quand il fait nuit. Le matin l’hôtel offre une navette gratuite pour aller au métro (la station de la “Forêt des kimonos” justement) qui permet d’aller en centre-ville, il faut juste les aviser au moins 20 minutes avant. En face de l’hôtel il y a un super petit café-restaurant, le Schooner Cafe où là aussi le personnel est adorable et qui ferme à 18h. Les petits-déjeuners de l’hôtel sont purement traditionnels (essentiellement salés) et donc à ne pas manquer.

À part la forêt de bambous géants et les jardins alentours, il n’y a pas grand-chose à voir dans le quartier qui est plutôt résidentiel et très différent de l’effervescence du centre-ville.
